Cambie St. Bridge Vancouver

Structural & Vibration Monitoring Services

Client: Pomerleau

Project Overview

Phase 2 of the Cambie Street Bridge Seismic Upgrade advances the City’s long-term resilience strategy by strengthening critical structural components to improve performance under seismic loading. The works include structural retrofits, foundation modifications, and localized strengthening measures while maintaining bridge operations within an active urban environment.

Given the complexity of working on an operational transportation corridor, continuous structural and vibration monitoring is essential to ensure asset protection, public safety, and construction compliance.

Scope of Services

Our team is providing real-time structural monitoring and construction vibration monitoring services to support Pomerleau during the execution of retrofit works.

1. Structural Monitoring

  • Installation of wireless structural sensors on critical bridge elements

  • Baseline condition assessment prior to construction activities

  • Continuous measurement of movement, tilt, strain, and vibration response

  • Threshold-based alerting system for exceedances

  • Live dashboard access for project stakeholders

  • Data archiving for engineering review and project documentation

The monitoring program enables proactive risk management by identifying structural response trends during retrofit activities.

2. Construction Vibration Monitoring

  • Deployment of calibrated geophones at designated locations

  • Real-time peak particle velocity (PPV) measurement

  • Customizable alert thresholds aligned with project specifications

  • Immediate SMS/email notifications upon exceedance

  • Daily summary reporting and event documentation

  • Remote data access with full audit trail

This ensures retrofit activities such as drilling, demolition, and foundation works remain within allowable vibration limits to protect the bridge structure and surrounding infrastructure.

Monitoring Objectives

  • Protect existing bridge components during seismic retrofit works

  • Provide defensible, time-stamped data for compliance verification

  • Support construction methodology adjustments if thresholds are exceeded

  • Reduce risk of structural damage claims

  • Enable transparent reporting to the City and stakeholders
